Meet Aidan – A Shining Example

Let’s shine a spotlight on Aidan, a remarkable individual who exemplifies the spirit of EnCircle’s mission. Currently pursuing his Associate degree, Aidan is immersing himself in the worlds of statistics and film making.

Aidan’s journey with EnCircle began after his high school years, during which he engaged in various programs, including Care at Boone County Family Resources. Through this entry level experience and training, he acquired basic skills, dedication and a willingness to commit to and perform job duties with confidence, at the ARC.

Since 2021, he has been an enthusiastic participant in EnCircle’s offerings, currently diving into engaging summer courses such as Podcasting and Disc Golf. Other courses previously taken include: Improv for Fun & Self-Expression; Social Independence; Stretch, Punch Kick; VR Driving; Workplace Social Skills and Pokemon Go: Collaboration to Catch ‘Em All and Self-Defense. In Spring 2023, Aidan also participated in a fun EnCircle sponsored social event, Speed Connection, where he and a group of peers practiced their friendship and relationship building skills by having quick 5-minute one-on-one conversations.

In the Summer of 2022, he participated in the “EnCircle Summer Employment Experience (SEE)”, leaving a positive mark by contributing to the City’s Farmers Market. Here, he undertook responsibilities such as planting, weeding, and harvesting crops – a testament to his dedication.

With the awareness of these unique experiences and having worked closely with Aidan over the past few years, Tara Shade, Director of Community Employment Services for EnCircle, recognized Aidan’s exceptional IT talents and potential. With Aidan’s skills and experience, she knew he’d be the perfect candidate to do IT-related preparations for the 2023 fall classes with tasks like resetting virtual reality headsets, which were previously used for driving simulators, and migrating from Oculus to the Meta Work Account. He was definitely the man for the job.

Last year, Aidan volunteered for Woodhaven, promoting the annual golf invitational fundraiser by posting flyers around town. While he may not be drawn to traditional sports such as golf, Aidan finds solace in walking and connecting with nature. His unique talent for political humor and commentary shines through as he effortlessly impersonates past presidents, evoking laughter and reflection. With dreams of leaving the Columbia area and finding engaging work, Aidan aspires to lend his voice to companies like Pixar through voice acting or to share his insightful perspectives on political and media-related topics.

When asked to share his thoughts on EnCircle with prospective participants, Aidan’s eyes light up. He warmly describes it as a haven for cultivating social skills, reconnecting with oneself, and embracing newfound independence. EnCircle is more than a program; it’s a transformative journey toward self-discovery and growth.
