Career Development at Woodhaven

Continuing Education

To establish a method of skill enhancement and career advancement, continuing education is available to Direct Support Professionals through In-services, Specialty Tier Training, Management Training, and on-going job training as needed.

In-Services

These are state required courses that the employee will be required to successfully complete during the New Hire Orientation period. This will include American Heart Association CPR, First Aid, Abuse & Neglect, Certified Medication Administration which includes Universal Precautions, Positive Behavior Interventions, and CPI: Non-violent Crisis Intervention. These courses are required to be updated annually or as notified.

Specialty Tier Training

Every individual who receives supports from Woodhaven has their own unique set of medical, behavioral and health needs. The development of Specialty Tier training is based on this understanding. Employees working in homes where individuals have specific needs related to their diagnoses are required to complete these additional courses annually or more frequently as necessary so that they can provide the best supports possible to these individuals. When an individual has the supports they need to be independent, they can achieve anything.

Specialty Tier Subjects Include:

Employees wishing to participate in a Specialty Tier not applicable to their home must first be recommended by their Home Coordinator or Program Manager.

In addition, training is provided on procedures for Accounting, Human Resources and Health Services.

Home Coordinators are required to attend in-house management training. Direct Support Professionals interested in the training must write an essay and be recommended by their Home Coordinator or Program Manager to be considered.
