Jeremy’s Success Story

Thank You, Woodhaven Donors

Small things can truly make a HUGE difference!

Coffee lovers understand how wonderful it is to have a hot cup of Joe brewed to perfection first thing in the morning. Its aroma filling the kitchen and welcoming a bright, new day. We take for granted how easy it is for us to get our hands on that anticipated cup of coffee. Thanks to our donors, Jeremy can now enjoy that simple pleasure as well, while actively improving his own quality of life.

Individuals at Woodhaven pay for their own miscellaneous supplies and typically have limited funds. Through Woodhaven donation programs, those items can be purchased for the individual when their funds are running low, or they have other expenses to prioritize.

This success story could only happen through the generosity of our donors and the intuitive skills of our Woodhaven staff. When Jeremy’s DSP (Direct Support Professional), Christy, reached out to our Development Department about the situation, we were able to find the funds to cover the expense through one of those donation programs.

Jeremy’s Success Story:

Man standing with box of coffee pods at Woodhaven in Columbia Mo

Jeremy’s staff, Christy, came to the Development Department looking for help to cover the cost of a Keurig coffee machine for Jeremy. She explained that this small change to Jeremy’s routine will make a big difference to his independence and behaviors, but he is saving up to attend camp this Spring and is unable to afford the machine himself. We were thrilled to be included and set about to find the perfect machine for Jeremy. We couldn’t have provided the makings of this success story if it weren’t for our generous donors. Christy reports that the Keurig coffee maker has helped Jeremy become more independent by allowing him to make his own coffee. He is still assisted by staff, but much less than before. He is learning quickly what steps to take and what button to push, to make his own cup of freshly brewed coffee. With his old coffeemaker it was very difficult for him to spoon the coffee grounds into the filter without spilling them. He couldn’t use the glass coffee pot as there was a risk for him breaking it and getting cut from the glass.

The new Keurig coffee maker has helped improve Jeremy’s quality of life in many ways. Since Jeremy now has a lot less confusion and frustration, his housemates have benefited as well. We like to ‘keep it happy’ in the house and this has definitely helped with that. This has also cut down on challenges, as he can see the number of pods (2) that he will be able to have for the day. And to our donors, “Thank you, with all our heart, you are amazing,” – Christy W., DSP. We couldn’t have said it better.
