“Fun”draising activities for the whole family

Sometimes, donating money to important organizations can feel like a repetitive routine. However, there are many creative and fun ways to “fun”draise that get the whole family involved! And when you are raising money for a great cause like Woodhaven, why not encourage the whole family to help out?

Yard sale

Yard sales are a great way to clean out the house while raising money for a good cause! You and your family can work together to find things in the house you don’t want anymore, and then organize and run a yard sale to donate the profits to an important cause like Woodhaven! Not only does the money support a great organization, but the items sold help your community as well.

Encourage kids to donate a portion of their allowance

Parents and kids can work together to decide on an amount that could be set aside from their allowance to donate. This option will help introduce kids to the importance of supporting issues and organizations they care about. Don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be a lot either. A lot of small donations can be just as helpful as a few big ones.

Workplace gift card drive

The whole family can work together to organize a gift card drive at a parent’s workplace! Parents and their colleagues can donate unused gift cards, or you can auction off gift cards to raise donation money. Here at Woodhaven, we want to have enough gift cards so each person gets one for their birthday and during the holidays. This fundraising method can provide us with gift cards or raise money to buy more!

Bake sale

Much like a yard sale, a neighborhood bake sale is a great way to both spend time cooking with the family and get the local community involved in fundraising. Have each member of the family bake their favorite kind of cookie. Make it a competition and see who can sell the most! This adds a little more motivation to sell as many as you can!

Lemonade Stand

After enjoying a fresh, hot out of the oven cookie, people are going to be thirsty! If someone isn’t excited about baking, let them run the lemonade stand. Fun flavors might even bring in more potential customers. It’s all about doing something fun that the whole family can enjoy and be a part of. Post flyers around your neighborhood. Encourage people who may not normally drive by your house to stop by and show their support!

Penny drive in the neighborhood or at school

Though pennies may not be very valuable on their own, they can easily add up to a meaningful donation. A family “penny jar” is the perfect place to collect the loose change in pants and coats on laundry day. Go to the store and get a handful of pennies back? In the jar they go!

Donations are vital to the success of organizations like Woodhaven. Luckily, with so many “fun”draising options, there is something for everyone. Woodhaven uses the donations to provide our community with access to dedicated support staff, safe homes, and necessary equipment to help foster independence and empowerment.
