Celebrating our Woodhaven nurses: During National Nurses Week … and every day.

Woodhaven Nurses

Time after time, our Woodhaven nurses use the term “rewarding” to describe their jobs and the vital roles they play in helping individuals in our community live as independently as possible. In recognition of our nurses during National Nurses Week, which concluded on May 12 — Florence Nightingale’s birthday — the team at Woodhaven was proud to shower them with love and attention.

The spirit week celebration was featured on social media, showing our staff members showing off their best creations on “hat day” and crazy hair or socks for those themed days. In keeping with the close-knit culture among Woodhaven staff, National Nurses Week was something of a family-like celebration for us.

Here’s what a few of our all-star nurses had to say about their work at Woodhaven.

“What inspired me to become a nurse at Woodhaven is having the opportunity to help individuals within our community and bring awareness to those with disabilities,” says Mariya Silvey, RN, BSN for Woodhaven. “One of the best rewards of this job is knowing that I am truly making a difference in the lives of the people I serve.”

Lindsey Kelly, RN, BSN for Woodhaven, echoes Mariya’s sentiments.

“Specifically, at Woodhaven, I think nurses impact our community by assisting in giving our individuals a voice, so they get the care they deserve and need,” Lindsey explains. “Several times I have received calls from staff saying something just isn’t right with an individual and together we are able to figure out what it may be and get them the care that they need. That’s what makes this job rewarding.”

The focus on “rewarding” is unanimous.

“Being a nurse is the most rewarding career I could ever ask for,” adds Kim Wayland, RN, BSN for Woodhaven. “Yes, I definitely have some long, hard, or bad days, but when I get that one smile or that big hug from that special individual, that makes it all worthwhile. To be a nurse, for me, means to provide love, care, and support for someone, no matter where or when they need it the most.”

Even though National Nurses Week has passed, please join us in making every day a celebration of our nurses, their special skills, and the incredible hearts of love that they share with the individuals in our community.
