Woodhaven is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a partner ministry of the Mid-America Region. Woodhaven is also a service unit of Disciples Benevolent Services and a member of the Disciples Care Network.

Support from the Disciples Mission Fund, individual congregations, Sunday School classes, Christian and Disciples Women’s Fellowship groups and Christian Men’s Fellowship groups is essential to our services. Church groups also provide valuable help as volunteers.

Woodhaven offers complimentary pulpit supply in Missouri and adjacent states by our Church Relations Coordinator, Reverend Larry Veatch, a retired Disciple minister. Woodhaven can also provide Moment for Missions, CWF/DWF programs and Sunday School classes. To schedule a visit from Woodhaven, call (573) 876-7327 or email lveatch@woodhaventeam.org.

Traditional Mission Opportunities
Woodhaven has many opportunities for groups of youth or adults to spruce up the living environments of the individuals served. Landscaping, light maintenance and general upkeep are always beneficial at the more than 40 sites around Columbia where Woodhaven provides services. The individuals who live in these sites love to have company, so periods of work are interspersed with opportunities to have fun with the individuals served by Woodhaven. This is especially beneficial for youth groups, giving the kids a chance to learn about and feel comfortable around people who are different from them.

“Reverse” Mission Trip
Bring the mission opportunity to you by inviting a small group of people with developmental disabilities to see your local sites and worship with your congregation. We travel in very small groups with full staff support to sites within easy driving distance of Columbia. This is an opportunity for some of the people we serve who haven’t had much opportunity to go on a vacation to go on an overnight trip.

Joint Mission Activity
Mid-Missouri is home to a variety of organizations that could benefit from your mission group’s help, including the Ronald McDonald House, Rainbow House Emergency Shelter, the Humane Society, and the Central Missouri Food Bank, which distributes food to agencies in 33 Missouri counties. Many individuals served by Woodhaven enjoy volunteering their time at these and other organizations doing their part to make a difference in the community. Consider bringing a youth or adult group to Columbia to volunteer someplace other than Woodhaven (perhaps in connection with some work at Woodhaven too), but include people served by Woodhaven in the fun by inviting them to join you as volunteers. In addition to the goods work you’ll accomplish volunteering, you’ll get the opportunity to befriend some wonderful people who have developmental disabilities and a connection to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
