Campbell's Soup Program

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO CAMPBELL'S PROGRAM

Campbell's no longer accepts the front labels on their products. They now want the UPC barcode.

Woodhaven has been a participant in the Campbell 's Soup Labels-for-Education program for more than 20 years. We receive labels from churches, Christian Women's Fellowship groups and individuals from all over the country. In the past, we have used the labels to "purchase" 15-passenger vans, which we can convert to be wheelchair accessible. We received four vans from the Campbell 's program through the years, which were used to take our men and women to their jobs, church, shopping, and other community outings.

In 2004 Campbell 's stopped offering the 15-passenger van. However, Woodhaven continues to participate in the program to earn other items that will enrich the lives of the men and women we serve, and to continue to nurture the special relationship with our church family that the Campbell's Soup Label program fosters, keeping those served by Woodhaven in the prayers of all who send labels.

We are often asked, now that we are no longer saving labels for vans, what exactly do we use the labels for? We usually give a long list of examples, but at the suggestion of one of our faithful savers, here is a detailed look at what we’ve received from Campbell’s after the vans were no longer available. We generally place only one order a year.

2004: Our first order was for a variety of items for our Day Program: craft supplies (paints, brushes, etc.), games (horseshoes, deck tennis) and a karaoke machine. That same year we also purchased seven computers for a much-needed upgrade in our office. The computers that were replaced were then given to several of the individuals we serve who had expressed an interest in having a computer in their homes.

2005: Our main order for 2005 was a video/data projector. We have used this to hold movie days during Day Program, as well as for staff training purposes and presentations about our mission. In 2005 we also ordered an overhead projector to use for staff training and a paper cutter that is used by the Day Program for their scrapbooking and for other uses in the office.

2006: In 2006 we made our largest “purchase” with our Campbell’s labels since our last van. We ordered five laptop computers – one for each of our program managers. These laptop computers allow the program managers (who act as the primary social workers for the individuals we serve, each overseeing the support plans for 20-25 individuals) to have access to necessary files, forms and information as they visit each of the individuals we serve in their homes. Although the program managers each have an office in our administrative building, 75% of their work is done in the field. The laptops have made a big difference in allowing them to use their time more efficiently and better serve the individuals in their care.

The Campbell’s Soup program continues to be very valuable to Woodhaven’s mission of serving individuals with developmental disabilities, providing us with many items that would not otherwise be in our budget. Please keep those Campbell’s UPC barcodes (remember, they no longer take front labels!) coming!
