Day Program adopts “grandparents”

About half a dozen men and women in our Community Integration program have developed relationships with residents of South Hampton Place, a local nursing home. Each person served by Woodhaven is paired with a South Hampton Place resident who does not have family. Their monthly visits allow the people served by Woodhaven to benefit from the experience of an older generation, and give them the joy of brightening someone’s day.

Household Items Needed

Three men served by Woodhaven are moving into new individual apartments in January and need many new or gently used household items to set up their new homes.

Items needed (must be new or gently used in good condition):

Washer and dryer
Living room furniture (need 2 full sets)
Television
Table and chairs (kitchen-size)
Non-breakable plates and cups
Pots and pans

Dinner exceeds goal!

Thank you to everyone who attended or contributed to Woodhaven’s annual fundraising dinner on October 22. Your generosity helped shatter our $20,000 goal by raising over $27,000! These gifts will help supplement Woodhaven’s funding for the remainder of the year to allow us to continue providing top quality services for people with developmental disabilities. Woodhaven at Area Assemblies

Woodhaven representatives will be present at two Area Assemblies for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on November 7. CEO Mark Palmer will attend the Northeast Area Assembly in Fulton. Larry Veatch, Church Relations Coordinator, will be present at the Ozark Lakes Area Assembly in Clinton. Please stop by and see them if you are attending these events.

About two dozen of the men and women served by Woodhaven are part of the Kiwanis Aktion Club, which won the 2009 Hero Award from the Voluntary Action Center and the Columbia Daily Tribune for their exemplary volunteerism. The Aktion Club was nominated by the City of Columbia Office of Volunteer Services. They are a great example of how men and women served by Woodhaven contribute to their community.

Join us Sept. 27 for the Bob Combs Memorial Golf Tournament!Make plans to join the Combs family, Broadway Christian Church and other Woodhaven friends at LA Nickel Golf Course on Sunday, September 27 in the afternoon. The 11th Annual Bob Combs Memorial Golf Tournament will benefit the men and women served by Woodhaven. Registration information will be available soon!
