Continuing Education
To establish a method of skill enhancement and career advancement, continuing education is available to direct support staff members through In-services, Specialty Tier Training, Management Training, College of Direct Support, and on-going training as needed.

In-Services:
These are state required courses that the employee will be required to successfully complete during the New Hire Orientation period. This will include American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, Abuse & Neglect, Certified Medication Administration, Positive Behavior Interventions, and Universal Precautions In-service. These courses are required to be updated annually or as notified.
Specialty Tier Training:
Our Specialty Tier Training includes Autism, Aging & Medically Fragile, and Sign Language. Classes are divided into Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced tiers. Employees working in homes identified as serving individuals with the Specialty needs will be required to complete the appropriate tiers. Employees wishing to participate in a Specialty Tier not applicable to their home must first be recommended by their Home Coordinator or Program Manager.
Management Training:
This training includes courses on:
- Leadership
- Management
- Interviewing/Hiring
- Team Building
- Counseling/Discipline
In addition, training is provided on procedures for Accounting, Human Resources and Health Services.
Home Coordinators are required to attend in-house management training. Direct Support Professionals interested in the training must write an essay and be recommended by their Home Coordinator or Program Manager to be considered.
Missouri College of Direct Support:
This web-based curriculum includes courses such as: Introduction to Developmental Disabilities, Community Inclusion, Cultural Competence, Positive Behavior Support, and Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults & Children. The College of Direct Support Materials serve as an enhancement to current agency training and are not mandatory. Staff will have the potential to earn up to $490 for completing all 14 core courses.
